The Signs on the Wall

Would you bid 4 too? I am almost certain that most would, including myself. But it is one down from the top, and one more because trumps are bad. If a club ruff happens, one more too.

After the bid of 1♠ South is unhappy about the misfit. So, he gladly just raises his hearts. I think that North should read the signs on the wall, finding all his honors to be of less value.

I am currently following a discussion about a mixture of Acol with strong one clubs. In that system, opening 1 would indicate less than 16 points. With the hand above, North would clearly consider twice to lift to game because South is limited. For a while, I played a strong one club system called "Precision". But we opened 5-card majors. It is interesting to open 4-card majors in a limited way. You probably need a way to show a 5-card minor later, so the system incorporates a scheme called "Canapé". Anyway, this is an academic discussion for me.
