Ace again - Playing against Adam Kaplan

Yesterday, I arrived after a lot of effort involving both bad luck and silliness at 80 in ♠K. The daily challenge is a good chance to gain, but not lose points. And that helped me to cross the border.

In the hand above, you cannot make 6NT. The diamond suit does not make you any favor. You almost have a squeeze against West's hearts and diamond Ace, but you cannot establish it due to a lack of communication.

This brings me to the problems you rise when bidding the slam in this hand. 2NT clearly explains itself as 20-21 points. Adding my 12 points, we reach 32-33. But the singleton Q should be a warning, even if opener has four hearts. So, I wanted to hear maximum from opener. Lia probably added a point because of the useless 5-card heart suit. Lia'd better play Puppet Stayman to make that kind of misfit more visible.

On the other side, Kaplan was in 6NT too. He bid 5NT after Stayman which shows 12-16 points and 2-3 hearts. To me, this is clearly not the correct bid. The outcome was the same, however.

One point in this hand is that you can make 6♣. The idea is to cross-ruff as much as possible.

After this first hand, I draw even and reached 25 points, winning one, losing one.
