A Lucky Punch

I played this hand in the daily master challenge. Like most, I ended in 5♥X which are made. Such things happen. The fifth level belongs to the opponents, they say. I think the only thing that should matter is to judge if 5 make or not. If they don't, doubling is better most of the time, unless you have very strong reasons to believe in 5♠. In this hand, you haven't. On the other hand, if you think 5 make, it is almost demanded to bid 5♠.

At the table and after the bidding, I'd hope for one trick in spade and clubs only. So I might have considered 5♠. But it is a tough decision, and we are vulnerable. Indeed, going down 2 is already too much. So I might finally decide to double too.

The point of this posting is to discuss the bidding of the master, however.

In the discussion, he mentioned that they use 2 to indicate a weak two suiter at home. But he knew that the robots don't. So he lied to Lia who raised to 4 with his strong hand and 6-card support. The opponents never got into the bidding, consequently.

My win was just a lucky incident, of course. But that's the way it happens in Bridge.
