Lia Bidding

IntoBridge uses a programmed approach to the bidding, they say. The alternatives would be Neural Networks or randomized Monte-Carlo, or both combined. This AI method is trained with thousands of hands and learns good bids. If it gets stuck, it generates random hands around the table with the current knowledge, collecting the results with a double dummy analysis. IntoBridge does not do this as far as I know.

However, I find the bidding of Lia often strange. The explanation of 3♣ is 16-18 points with a good 6-card suit. North must not pass with his hand. Yet he does. We have enough points for game, but no fit. So, North should show his stopper in . That suggests 3NT with a diamond stopper.

3NT is by no means bullet proof. As the cards stand, it cannot be beaten. I estimate the chances to make it as 50-50, but only with best defense. With my Bridge Replay program, you can study such hands by shuffling the cards of E/W and analyzing the results in double dummy fashion.

Some players opened 3♣ with this hand. This is probably the right hand for such a bet. It shows a safe 7-card suit with some side values, but no ace. Lia on North bid 3NT after this. One player opened 1NT which got him to 3NT too.

It is interesting to study the contract of 4♠. I think you can make it only because the ♠10 drops.
